Meet Our School Chaplain

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. ”

Romans 6:23 (NIV)

Introducing Quintin Ayers…

Over the last few months, Wesleyan’s Administration has conducted a comprehensive search for our next Spiritual Life Director and have been blessed with multiple candidates. Today, Wesleyan’s Board of Directors and Administration are thrilled to share that in God’s faithfulness, we believe the Lord has shown us His person for this important role. Today we’d like to introduce you to Quintin Ayers, Wesleyan’s new Spiritual Life Director, effective June 1.

Quintin Ayers, an active member of Mercy Hill Church of the Triad, grew up in southwest Virginia and has lived in the Triad for seven years. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and a Masters of Divinity from Piedmont International University (now Carolina University/Piedmont Divinity School) in Winston-Salem. During his years in seminary, Quintin served first as an intern to the Youth Pastor of Goodview Baptist Church in Goodview, Va., and then as Youth Pastor at Project RE: 3 Church in Kernersville.

Quintin is certified by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and teaches high school Bible and World History at Salem Baptist Christian School. Outside of school, Quintin serves as part of Mercy Hill’s Student Ministry Team and goes on at least one short-term mission trip a year—this year, it will be Africa. He and his wife, Leslie, are also members of a Community Group at Mercy Hill. According to Quintin, he and his wife love to travel, and you may often find him on the tennis court or in a bookstore with a cup of coffee in hand.

Pastor Chris Walker, Youth Pastor at Goodview Baptist Church, has a unique perspective on Quintin as he’s watched him grow up and become the man of God that he is today. “Quintin is a highly respected individual in our community and our church. He has a passion for God and the Gospel, and is mature and wise beyond his years.” Walker continued, “Quintin is also a talented communicator and can connect with people of all ages, but especially teens. We have grown to love and treasure Quintin tremendously, and I’m sure your families will also.”

Recently, Quintin led Wesleyan’s Middle and High School Chapels with his message, “But Be Doers of the Word.” For 25 minutes, he took biblical concepts and broke them down into language the students could understand—and kept their attention while doing so. His use of humor, his down-to-earth nature, and his reverence for God’s word blended effortlessly, clearly resonating with students. A few of the comments faculty received from students after chapel included: “He relates to kids,” “He was energetic and entertaining,” and “He really held my attention. I liked what he had to say,”

His relatability is not by chance. According to Quintin, “I grew up in a poor, unbelieving, single-family home in Goodview, Va. I should have never encountered Christ in my life. However, a local youth pastor in the area decided to pick up trailer park kids and show them Christ. He paid for me to attend Merriwood Christian Camp as a rising 6th grader. Merriwood is where I received Christ … sitting on my bunk reading Romans 6:23Now I want to be for students what that youth pastor was for me.”  Not surprisingly, Quintin’s life mission is to give God glory by presenting the love and truth of Jesus to students…”
