March Madness … For Missions, That Is
THIS MONTH, AS THE NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TAKES THE COUNTRY BY STORM, WESLEYAN PLANS TO TAKE THE TRIAD BY STORM WITH CHRIST’S LOVE. MARCH MADNESS FOR MISSIONS GIVES OUR STUDENTS, PARENTS AND FACULTY A BEAUTIFUL OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE GOSPEL, IN WORD AND DEED, TO THE PEOPLE IN OUR AREA.
“How beautiful … are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation …” Isaiah 52:7
Traditionally, “March Madness” means one thing to North Carolinians: the NCAA Basketball Tournament. But this year, Wesleyan has its own take on this well-known tradition.
During the month of March, our focus hones in on Missions. From the Missions Fair to our All-School Service Day, it’s a time when we encourage our students to look beyond the walls of the school to learn more about the Great Commission and to consider how they may take the first step, or continue in their own interest for missions and service.
Every March, WCA’s student body has served our community together on a single Saturday. This year, however, Pastor Paul Coates and the administration looked at ways we could offer our students multiple ways to serve.
The end result? “March Madness For Missions!” We have teamed up with the Macedonia Family Resource Center, Montlieu Elementary and the Church Under the Bridge in Greensboro, to bless our community and enable our students to share the love of Christ. Consequently, over the next few weeks there are four special opportunities for Wesleyan students to serve:
Mission 1: Gifts for Montlieu Elementary Teachers and Staff
Who: 5th-12th grade students
Middle School and High School small groups have collected gifts (e.g. post-it-notes, candy jars, markers, gift cards, etc) for the Montlieu faculty. This morning, Thursday, March 21, each small group will assemble a gift basket for a faculty or staff member during their small group time.
Mission 2: Church Under the Bridge Serving Greensboro’s Homeless Community
Who: HS students / MS students with parents
On Saturday, March 23, Wesleyan students will work alongside the Church Under the Bridge to serve a hot meal and hold a worship service for Greensboro’s homeless community. As part of the service, Wesleyan’s Praise Band will sing while students perform a painting drama, entitled, “The Jesus Painting.” Assistant Principal Brad Clodfelter will end the service with a short message.
Mission 3: Family Fun & Reading Night for Montlieu Elementary Families
Who: 7th-12th graders
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, Wesleyan students will help host a fun carnival-like event for Montlieu students with bounce houses, popcorn, cotton candy, and more. Our students will also have a special time to read to the elementary students.
Mission 4: Community Day for Macedonia Community Residents
Who: 7th – 12th grade students / 2nd – 6th grade students with parents
For those who like to get their hands dirty, on Saturday, March 30, Wesleyan students will descend on the Macedonia Family Resource Center with rakes and shovels to help beautify the garden that so many in the community enjoy.

As you may imagine, we are excited to see what God will do in and through our young people in the days and weeks ahead. Please also be in prayer that God would move mightily as we step out in faith!
