Local Learning Disabilities Association Sponsors Parent Seminar at Wesleyan
On Tuesday, October 4, at 6:45 p.m. in the Farlow Kennedy Center, the Enrichment Center will host a parent seminar sponsored by The Triad Learning Disabilities Association.
Local child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Kim Dansie will speak on the topic of “Anxiety: What it is and Ways to Deal with It”. Dr. Dansie is a university-contracted psychiatrist for High Point University and has her own practice in High Point. The Enrichment Center Director, Becky Owens, is thrilled to have Dr. Dansie visit the academy and believes parents will find her seminar to be helpful and informative.
Wesleyan’s administration strives to pursue opportunities that will benefit our parents. We seek out ways to strengthen our mission of partnering with them to provide a high quality education to their children. This seminar is just one of many opportunities that will be offered throughout the year.
Wesleyan’s faculty is also given opportunities of additional professional development that not only benefits them but their students. At the August teacher in-service, faculty had the opportunity to learn from experts on subjects such as ADHD, Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS), which is a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade, and hear lectures on a biblical worldview and biblical integration in the classroom.
It is offering opportunities like the seminar with Dr. Dansie to Wesleyan’s parents and the teacher in-service training to faculty that makes this partnership a truly strong one that will help to accomplish Wesleyan’s mission of partnering with families by providing a biblically-based, college-preparatory education so that students will be equipped to serve Christ and influence the world.
